Log Home Finish Restoration

Log Home Finish Restoration

There are many techniques possible when restoring the finish on a log home. Some of these techniques include walnut. or other media blasting material, chemical stripping, or hand grinding. We will help determine the best course of action for your project based on 17 years of experience.

Log Home Rot Repair

Log homes look beautiful and if well maintained will last for a very long time. However, there are occasions when some logs can succumb to rot and decay. There are several reasons why logs can become rotten, including poor gutter systems which do not prevent rain water from dripping on to the logs. Poorly finished or stained logs, bad design, or not having an annual maintenance plan in place to keep the stain working to protect the wood. All of these possibilities could result in rot repair of the logs or wood.

Log Home Fire Restoration

Log Home Fire Restoration

Fidalgo Restoration Log Home Repair LLC has completed several complex log home fire restoration projects.  The process includes repairing/replacing logs that are charred beyond 1/2″ of depth, then media blasting the smoke damage and light charring from the interior or exterior logs.  After the charring has been removed, the logs are sanded, washed, and then heat is applied to expand the logs and open the small fissures and checks.

Log Home Chinking

Chinking for your log home is done using a latex based material provided by Perma-chink or Sashco.  Both products provide high quality results.  Preparation for chinking usually includes full finish restoration prior to application.  Restoration is required if the exterior or interior logs have a failed finish on them.  The chinking needs to be applied to a good substrate or it will not adhere and then it will fail.  Chinking can be either applied to bare sanded wood and then stained over, or it can be applied over the new stain that has been applied during the restoration process.  Chinking is a very important aspect of log home restoration and should not be ignored!  You will be very thankful you did the chinking when you spend one drafty and cold winter in a non chinked log home.
